Date: Monday, December 11, 2017
Join Cassandra Eve for an Introduction to Turkish Romani dance! In this workshop Cassandra draws upon her music and dance background to help you gain a solid foundation in this unique style. You will learn how to count the challenging 9/8 rhythm commonly used in this style, the movements and gestures that are the signatures of Turkish Romani dance and a few fun, short combinations that put everything together! Cassandra will also provide a brief overview and open discussion of Turkish Romani history.
This workshop will be in a supportive environment and open to dancers of all levels, styles, genders, etc!
About the Instructor:
Cassandra Eve has been a student, teacher and performer of belly dance for over a decade; it all changed in 2012 when she was introduced to and fell in love with Turkish Oryantal and Turkish Romani dance. To further her dance and cultural studies she travelled to Istanbul where she had the opportunity to learn from master Turkish Romani dancer and instructor, Reyhan Tuzsuz, in her own home. She will be passing on some of the knowledge she gained during her time in Turkey with you. Over the past few years, she has continued to work on Turkish Romani dance with instruction/workshops from Reyhan, Rabia, and Elizabeth Strong. She hopes you will love this dance form as much as she does!
