From 2003 until 2012, there was a weekly 1 hour bellydance class in Edmonton called Cardio Shimmy. It was fast, fun, and the genesis of the rule in all of Donna’s classes that the first person landing on their keester had to buy ice cream. This class is part workout, part gigglefest, and part ‘cuss creatively at the instructor’. If you mix an old school 80’s aerobic class with modern bellydance, this is the kind of hilarious sweatfest you would end up with. New dancers will have no problem picking up any of the moves, and as we dance, there will always be ‘level up’ challenges for the more advanced dancer.
Make sure you have a full water bottle handy and maybe a towel, because once we start, we don’t stop until the hour is done. This is a barefoot class, and is suitable for those just starting out and those who have been dancing for many years. Many of Edmonton’s bellydancers started out in this class at one of the many YMCA locations. This class has no choreography, but you will leave the ten weeks with some fun combinations that you can throw out at a moments notice.
This is a non-performing class.
